海賊版DVD販売業者を現行犯逮捕 (大阪府警察本部生活安全特別捜査隊他) November.11.2014

Joint Operation by Community Safety Special Investigation Division of Osaka Prefectural Police Headquarters and Multiple Police Stations

On November 5, 2014, officers from the Community Safety Special Investigation Division of Osaka Prefectural Police Headquarters and 11 police stations including the Nishinari Police Station conducted a simultaneous search of street stalls selling pirated DVDs in Nishinari Ward, Osaka-City, where a total of 10 male and female DVD sellers suspected of Copyright Act Violation were immediately arrested at the scene.

Assigning 76 officers to the operation, Osaka Prefectural Police seized 5,906 pirated DVDs, including pirated copies of MPAA member companies’ titles, from the illegal DVD stalls. Of the DVDs displayed, there were also illegal copies duplicated from some recent titles that are still showing in cinemas.
Osaka Prefectural Police intend to conduct further investigations into sales channels as well as suppliers in the future.

Due to the “Nishinari Special District Plan” promoted by Osaka-City, the area is currently emphasizing education stimulus measures such as the unification of elementary and junior high school education. As there had been many complaints from a wide range of people from the residents and neighboring facilities regarding stores selling illegal products, Osaka Prefectural Police were intensifying their crackdowns.
