海賊版DVD販売業者を現行犯逮捕(大阪府西成警察署他) June.17.2014

Cooperation by Osaka Prefectural Police Nishinari Police Station and Other Multiple Police Stations

On June 16, 2014, officers from Osaka Nishinari Police Station, Minami Police Station, and Abeno Police Station, along with the Community Safety Special Investigation Division of Osaka Prefectural Police Headquarters jointly conducted a search of two illegal DVD stores located in Nishinari Ward, Osaka-City, and arrested three individuals at the premises – a female DVD seller, another male DVD seller and the male landlord of the stores on lease.

Japan and International Motion Picture Copyright Association (JIMCA) provided full assistance in the investigation by identifying pirated copies of MPAA member companies’ movie titles possessed by the sellers at the scene.

There were a total of approximately 3,800 pirated DVDs displayed in these stores for the purpose of illegal sales, with some recent titles that are still showing in the cinemas.

The Osaka Prefectural Police plan to conduct further investigations into sales channels including suppliers in the future.
