According to information from the National Police Agency, 45 prefectural police nationwide in Japan conducted a simultaneous intensive crackdown on copyright infringement incidences of movies, music, animation, comics, games, and business software via file sharing software, etc. during the period of February 25th to 27th, 2014, and searched 123 premises. Up to the present time, 16:00 PM on February 28, 33 individuals have been arrested.

The Japanese National Police Agency has executed a Simultaneous Intensive Crackdown on Copyright Infringement Using File Sharing Software, etc. since the year of 2009, and this operation was the fifth time.

In addition to this, all ACA affiliate associations have participated in the operation of sending out warning messages via emails implemented by the Consortium against Copyright Infringement via File-Sharing Software (CCIF), and have joined the action of requesting individual users who commit distribution of copyright infringement content using file sharing software networks to delete the files.

Along with the National Police Agency, ACA will continue to work closely in conjunction with all relevant ministries and agencies in the future to promote the movement of eradicating counterfeit products and protecting intellectual property.

Regarding the incidences in which JIMCA provided assistance

As mentioned in the previous announcement made by the National Police Agency and the ACA, a Simultaneous Intensive Crackdown on Copyright Infringement Using File Sharing Software, etc. was executed under the leadership of the National Police Agency. JIMCA provided assistance to the crackdown by submitting complaints to five prefectural police as part of the operation against those individuals who had illegally uploaded the files of copyrighted movies of MPA member companies.

*On February 25th (Tuesday): Officers from Okayama Prefectural Police Headquarters Consumer and Environmental Protection Division, and Okayama Minami Police Station arrested a 47-year-old self-employed male residing in Kurashiki-City, Okayama Prefecture, for illegally uploading to the P2P network “Share”.

*On February 25th (Tuesday): Officers from Okinawa Prefectural Police Headquarters Living and Safety Division, and Tomigusuku Police Station searched the residence of a 35-year-old unemployed male residing in Akiruno-City, Tokyo, and arrested the man on the same day for illegally uploading to the UGC (User Generated Content) website “FC2 Video”.

*On February 26th (Wednesday): Officers from Gunma Prefectural Police Headquarters Community Safety Planning Division, and Maebashi Police Station searched the residence of a 53-year-old self-employed male residing in Oita-City, Oita Prefecture, and arrested the man on the same day for illegally uploading to the P2P network “Share”.

*On February 26th (Wednesday): Shimane Prefectural Police Headquarters Consumer and Environmental Protection Division, and Matsue Police Station directly filed charges against a 47-year-old company man residing in Himeji-City, Hyogo Prefecture, to the Matsue District Public Prosecutors Office for illegally uploading to the P2P network “Share”.

JIMCA will continue to work in cooperation with the police nationwide in Japan and take actions against illegal activities not only limited to P2P and UGC websites but also be dedicated to eradicating all types of unlawful conduct against MPA member companies’ titles.
