JIMCA CONDUCTS LECTURE ON THE ENFORCEMENT OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS AT WIPO TRAINING COURSE
*WIPO Training Course on the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights

On December 12, 2014, Mr. Takashi Ajimura, Representative Director of Japan and International Motion Picture Copyright Association. (JIMCA), delivered a lecture at a WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) Training Course on the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights.

The training course was designed to raise awareness of respect for Intellectual Property Rights through the examination and discussion of the minimum requirements as well as the flexibility regarding Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement stipulated in the TRIPS Agreement (Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights) Part III -Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights. 24 judges and public prosecutors from 12 countries attended the training. JIMCA provided easy to grasp explanations with regard to the current enforcement being implemented in Japan – in particular, the collaboration between law enforcement agencies and rights’ holder organizations against copyright infringement.

A panel discussion was also held after the lecture, where attendees asked many questions about the Japanese state prosecution policy; the application of Shinkokuzai, crimes which require a formal complaint from the victim in order to effect a prosecution; and the extent of the actual sentencing in copyright infringement cases.
