TIFFCOM, MPA, and DHU Co-Host “Master Class Seminar & Pitching Contest 2022” for Young Filmmakers August.05.2022

The Motion Picture Association (MPA), in cooperation with TIFFCOM, adjunct film market of the 35th Tokyo International Film Festival, and Digital Hollywood University, will hold the “MPA/DHU/TIFFCOM Master Class Seminar & Pitching Contest 2022. The event will be held as a virtual distributed in TIFFCOM* website.
This is the fifth year for this seminar and project pitching event held with the aim of building a platform for young filmmakers to expand their business overseas.

Part 2: Pitching Contest
Five projects will be selected from among the submitted projects and five finalists will pitch their project.
The winning project will receive a trip to the “Global Film & Television Immersion Program” (one winner) in November 2023 to see how the film and television business is conducted in Los Angeles. The award program includes a 5-day course, round-trip economy class airfare from Japan to Los Angeles, accommodations, and admission to the American Film Market (AFM). (Interpreters will not be provided).
In addition, the project selected for the Excellence Award (one winner) will be invited to attend the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) to be held on the Gold Coast, Australia in November 2023. The award includes round-trip economy class airfare from Japan to Australia, accommodation, and participation in the Asia Pacific Screen Forum. (Interpreters will not be provided).

*In the event that a prize cannot be awarded for any reason, including but not limited to travel abroad due to the effects of the new coronavirus or the inability to hold a participating event, The Motion Picture Association reserves the right, at its discretion, to substitute an alternate opportunity for all or part of the prize. No cash value can be exchanged for these prizes.

◆Pitching Contest Application Details

The subject matter is free. Based on a synopsis (2000 words or less), the first round of judging will be document screening, and the final round will be a 5-minute slide presentation at the venue on the day of the event. Professionals involved in the film industry will participate as judges on the day of the event. It is expected to applicants to make an appealing presentation that will make the audience want to see the work in film form. The work may have already been published, but only if the rights to the work belong to the applicant. All applicants including professional, amateur, or of any age, are welcome to apply.
Only successful applicants will be notified of the results of the preliminary screening by the end of September 2022 at the e-mail address provided at the time of application.

This year’s contest will be pre-recorded and the recording will be held at Digital Hollywood University (Ochanomizu) on either Friday, October 7 or Saturday, October 8.
